It's simply not good enough. My desire is to create a truly satisfying reading experience. The novel isn't quite there yet.<br /><br />Writing the novel in 30 days as part of the National Novel Writing Month contest didn't leave much time for research. This turned a lot of the criminal and private investigation parts of the story into <span style="font-style:italic;">indirect narrative</span> rather than <span style="font-style:italic;">direct narrative</span>. In other words, I skipped the detective portions of my detective story.<br /><br />Not all is lost though, as the skeleton I created with the rough draft has been useful. This will be a long and tedious process, but the results will be worth it.<br /><br />I've tentatively planned to finish first pass language edit by the 20th. Language edit means just the language. I have to rewrite some parts after that, and add new ones as well! Then I will do a second edit, and maybe a third. <br /><br />It might be fit to publish after that.<br /><br />I also plan to start another novel set in the same universe. There's also some articles I've put on the backburner for way too long!<br /><br />2006 will be a busy year. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
There are six days left in the contest and I'm at 40,000 words. I'll be celebrating once its over!
It's November 16 and halfway through National Novel Writing Month. I've got 25,000 words out of 50,000 needed to pass. Halfway there!
It has been an interesting experience, some of which I've described in my Quantum blog. I'll be taking time off from writing next month to let the first draft ferment so that I can view it with fresh eyes for editing in January. From that point we'll see where things stand if I'm happy with the quality of it, though I'm picky so a 3rd or 4th draft isn't entirely out of the question.
Then I'll set to publishing it, which you'll certainly find out about here.
Maybe next year I can convince some of you to embark on this crazy NaNoWriMo journey with me.
